I have two Section 8 tenants. One is through NYCHA and the other is through a state program. The one in the state program has to go. The state is reducing their portion to only 21.5% of his rent. He can't afford to pay 78.5%. The state also only gave him and me two weeks notice of this change. His lease runs out on Monday. I talked to the Section 8 office and they will work with us while he gets a new place. However, this is crazy. Forget the lack of notice but why would a landlord rent to Section 8 tenants when only a small part of the rent is guaranteed. I think the future of Section 8 tenants in NYC apartments will be in doubt. This town is getting expensive and the government can't keep up with the rising rents. My question is where will lower income people live?
